Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia is in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral, unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Mi’kmaq. The company’s objective is to produce professional work in both live performance and digital programming that is entertaining, informative, and stimulating to all the senses. As important is the goal of encouraging literacy, public participation in the arts, generating enthusiasm for the art of reading, propelling the art of storytelling in innovative ways, and building creative confidence in today’s children and youth.
Responsibilities
Reporting to and under the direction of the Executive Director.
MermaidTV (Mermaid Studios):
Promotes and sells MermaidTV programming globally
Strategizes, builds and acquires clients from various markets
Pitches MermaidTV to large stakeholders, regional, local, global and to smaller educator networks online and offline
Administers day-to-day MermaidTV sales
Creates and reaches obtainable sales goals
Source external client feedback on MermaidTV products
Further develops North American (Canada and US) global advertising, monetization, social, and media trends for MermaidTV products
Define multiple MermaidTV product roadmaps and executes monetization tactics through various streams
Account (s) creation and distributes materials via the MermaidTV digital platform
Invoicing/billing and contracting
Negotiates contracts with clients as directed by the Executive Director
Solicits MermaidTV products to potential clients through phone, e-mail, advertising, and marketing strategies
Organizes and updates MermaidTV client database
Fosters new partnerships and working relationships to increase revenue for MermaidTV and Mermaid’s theatrical division
Operational
Seeks new investment and grant awards for Mermaid products and productions
Authors community and ancillary grants for small to medium requests $75,000 or less
Maintains grant applications and grant reporting schedules for the Executive Director
Answers phones, general e-mails, and send/receive mail for company
Provides site tours of Mermaid’s facilities
Schedules and attends meetings with investment partners, stakeholders, cultural partners, government agencies, Canadian global affairs as necessary
Provides refreshments at company meetings and board meetings
Liaisons with touring artist agents and artists for Mermaid’s presenting season
Builds show templates, maintains online ticketing and box office sales and media in Nliven ticketing systems
Works with the Executive Director on special initiatives and projects that increase revenue for the organization
Assists the Executive Director on other administrative and financial projects as appropriate
Authors draft deals and contracts for Mermaid’s community engagement activities, artists, rentals for Executive Director approval.
Creates artist portfolios for community programming activities
Creates tour routing sheets for international touring schemes, assists in organization of HR paperwork for touring shows.
Organizes The Mermaid (Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre) contracts, riders, and coordinates and communicates to internal staff, contractors, and agents
Coordinates and schedules volunteers and for Mermaid Theatre programming
Schedules professional cleaning services for the theatre and offices
Schedules the Bar Manager and Front of House Manager for events
Drafts rental agreements for The Mermaid Theatre to artists, community groups and private bookings
Marketing for MermaidTV (Mermaid Studios) & Mermaid Products & Other Related Business
Supports Mermaid’s marketing initiatives with creating campaigns and print ads
Organizes and archives all marketing campaigns for both print and digital marketing
Utilizes Uscreen on-demand digital platform to setup accounts and bundles for sales
Welcomes professional development for digital marketing strategies
Creates decks or visual pitches/projects for business development
Develops/designs attractive marketing campaigns in collaboration with the Executive Director and Administrative Assistant in developing successful social media posts on all company social media platforms with both MermaidTV and The Mermaid
Builds digital Welcome Packets for MermaidTV to clients through Adobe Illustrator
Researches and develops marketing plans for multiple mermaid products
Builds and maintains Mermaid’s MermaidTV and Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia online presence for both websites and social media.
Uploads archive digital media to either the MermaidTV and or Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia website
Addresses and or approves presenter/venue questions about print media related to Mermaid’s touring shows
Maintains an updated marquee posters for upcoming events
Designs print media for upcoming shows and presentations
Writes press releases, public service announcements, and other Mermaid Theatre communication as required in collaboration with the Public Relations Consultant
Solicits and arranges media interviews
Assists and supports general office responsibilities with the Executive Director and Financial Administrator
Support
Works closely with the Executive Producer (Executive Director) for MermaidTV’s product line and supports the Executive Producer through project management, time management, production coordination, and ensures sales deadlines are met.
Health & Safety
Ensures all production staff follow PPE and or follow health and safety policies and procedures
Provides risk assessment training before all production work begins for ancillary production staff on MermaidTV sets.
Reporting
Monthly reporting (or as needed/requested)
Wellness Leave, Personal Time, and Vacation Requests to Financial Administrator & Executive Director
Yearly (or as needed/requested)
Participates in in-person performance appraisals
Requirements
College diploma or University degree in fine arts or equivalent
Minimum 3 years’ experience working in sales, business development, and marketing
Excellent illustration skills using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
Excellent organization and planning skills
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments
Eager to work with a team of artists, technicians, actors, administrators and managers
Must have reliable transportation and mobile phone
Positive and enthusiastic attitude
Knowledge and skillset to utilize Adobe products (Illustrator, Photoshop) and social media platforms
Willingness to learn as well as yield a high-level of project output
Excellent time-management
Takes direction well while working under pressure and able to meet deadlines
A genuine curiosity for the art of puppetry
Understands and believes in the company’s mandate and mission
Good-humored
Enjoys working both independently and in a team environment
MS Office
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform daily work in a typical office environment; seated for extended periods with exposure to computer monitors and repetitive operation of mouse & keyboard is required.
Occasional light to moderate lifting, 50lbs or less.
Preferred Requirements
Experience working at a non-profit
Experience working in entertainment, the performing arts, or touring companies
Experience working in a fast-paced environment that changes frequently
Additional Requirements:
Able to travel to Mermaid’s headquarters in Windsor, Nova Scotia and or reside in Windsor / West Hants.
Must have a valid driver’s license,
Must be 18 years or older
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in Canada
Available to travel internationally

Additional Terms & Conditions of Employment
Type of Position
This is a full-time contract position to cover maternity leave with paid onboarding.
Position Start Day
May 4th, 2026
Compensation:
Competitive Salary & Benefits; 4-day work week, salary range: $45,000 - $48,000 plus additional benefits
Flexible Hours of work:
Typically, Monday - Thursday; 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (can be altered with executive approval) 32- hours per week at minimum. Please note that as a team member of Mermaid Theatre, we request your support and presence at Mermaid functions, fundraisers, and at times, be requested to volunteer.
